Welcome to the Office of Community Engagement
The Office of Community Engagement, led by Associate Vice President for Community Engagement and Strategic Initiatives, Lauralyn Beattie Lee, seeks to coordinate and facilitate effective relations with the city and local community. The staff of the Office of Community Engagement works to accomplish this by:
- building and facilitating internal and external collaborations to support the University’s strategic engagement with its local community;
- ensuring that there is effective internal and external communication regarding the University’s engagement in all of its local communities – the neighborhoods around the historic Main Campus and the Georgetown Downtown location (new School of Continuing Studies location and the Law Center), and in other areas of the District;
- participating in institutional planning, and ensuring that the University’s engagement with the community is supportive and aligned with planning priorities and related strategies;
- supporting the University’s community service and civic engagement initiatives, including specifically its Ward 7 Initiative;
- developing and implementing the University’s political engagement strategy with relevant government offices and policy makers;
- serving as the University’s primary point of contact for neighborhood and business leadership, community organizations, and local government officials; and
- coordinating the University’s leadership and engagement in the local higher education sector.
We welcome any feedback, advice and suggestions you may have regarding the university and its relationship with the city and its neighbors. Do not hesitate to stop by our office.
The Office of Community Engagement sends out a weekly calendar via email to community members highlighting events on campus which are open to the public. If you would like to receive this weekly email, please contact us at neighborhood@georgetown.edu.
